The tides, currents and water levels unit operates a permanent network of tide and water level gauging stations.

The network:

      • Lake Erie
        • Port Stanley
        • Port Colborne
        • Toledo
        • Cleveland
      • Lake Ontario
        • Port Weller
        • Toronto
        • Cobourg
        • Kingston
        • Rochester
        • Oswego
    • 1 additional tidal station on Hudson Bay at Churchill, Manitoba
  • was established to provide the data required by the Canadian Hydrographic Service (CHS) for:
    • safety of navigation
    • hydrographic surveys
    • production of nautical charts and publications
  • is equipped with SUTRON 8210™ Data Loggers, which record water level heights at 3 minute intervals using a float-counterweight driven encoder
    • data are transmitted via telephone on a daily basis to a central collection station at our Burlington, Ontario office
